I’m an Anaheim Ducks snob.  I’ll admit it.  There are no other options for me- no team with which I have a secret affair.  No boyfriend/girlfriend team if you will.

When the standings are as close as they are in the Western Conference every win and loss becomes important.  It almost becomes necessary to pull for one team more than another on any given night just so the Ducks can climb the standings.

Example…

While deciding what to watch on Center Ice the other night, my roommate chose the Dallas and Vancouver match-up since we, “hate both of those teams a lot!”

It hit me at that moment that Anaheim needs Dallas to lose in order for the Ducks to pass them in the standings. 

I started to say “Go Vancooooo…”

I couldn’t do it.  My body wouldn’t allow me to say such degrading things.  It was like a natural reflex, and my mouth just stopped working.  I can’t CHEER for another team – ever.  My Ducks DNA won’t allow for it.  Sure, the Ducks desperately needed Dallas to lose that game, but to root for Vancouver is out of the question.

There is really only one option available at this point…

“BOO DALLAS!” 

Of course those words flowed freely from my lips.  A perfect melody filled the air – which is saying a lot if you’ve ever heard me sing.

The answer is simple, when I need certain teams to lose, I “BOO” one team more than the other.

I invite you to cheer along with me.  Take a look at the standings, see who’s ahead of the Ducks (or too close) and decide who you’ll “BOO” more.

Tonight, as the St. Louis Blues take on the Calgary Flames, consider “BOO-ing” Calgary more.  As much as I don’t want the Blues to catch up to the Ducks, they’ll still be behind in the standings and eighth place Calgary will be that much easier to catch.

Of course, “BOO-ing” some teams is always easier than others.  For instance, when Detroit is playing, I never have a problem watching them lose, and Tuesday night’s matchup between Phoenix and Detroit is no different.  The Ducks are hot on Detroit’s tail…”BOO DEROIT!” (see how beautiful that sounds?).

Beware, as the standings change, your “BOO’s” will change as well. 

Above all, take pride when the Ducks are playing and cheer your heart out for them.  That’s the easiest thing of all.
